The Next Step 7-13-08

I wanted to contact you and give a little update on Curtis.  The hospital is discharging him and he will be moved to a sub-acute care center probably in the next few days.  We have visited several and pray that he is accepted to one with a good rehab program as well as a caring staff.

This past week Curtis began to open one of his eyes.  While they are open only momentarily right now we are encouraged that he is doing more towards 'waking up'.  One day Sarah was visiting with him and she tickled his lip with her finger and he moved his head then she began to say, "Wake up Curtie, wake up!"  and to that he opened his eyes.  A college friend of his came for a visit and Curtis opened his eyes and squeezed Tim's hand.

Curtis had surgery to place a tracheostomy, feeding tubing in his stomach and to repair his broken chin and eye socket, he is recovering from those very well.

Curtis has been breathing on his own for the last couple of weeks and was only receiving supplemental oxygen.  They have began to wean him off the oxygen and now he is only receiving 28% so another step in the right direction.

Curtis has a challenging road ahead of him.

Thank you for your love and support!

Tammy
