I went to LA briefly this weekend to visit Curtis and the family. Though it was difficult to see Curtis in such a state, I was encouraged. Encouraged that Curtis has a mother, 3 sisters, a girlfriend, and a host of others who care enough to visit him constantly, arrange for his personal affairs, and be strong advocates for Curtis getting the best care possible. Encouraged that there were other families in the waiting room with stories of remarkable recovery from a coma. Encouraged that, even in silence, Curtis has an ability to touch people – people from the security guard on his floor of the hospital, to the lady ringing up food at the cafeteria, to his doctors and nurses (one even shaved him). Encouraged that Curtis was taken to one of the best trauma wards in the state, if not the country. Encouraged that Curtis responds to our voices, opens his eyes, and squeezes hands. Encouraged that Curtis is loved by so many people that it became necessary to setup this blog to keep the communication going. God is in that hospital and with the people who are lovingly serving Curtis, without complaint and without know the ultimate outcome. It is a beautiful thing to witness – thank you Linda, Tammy, Renee, Sarah, and Elaine for letting me come out there. Curtis is truly blessed.
