Finally! Curtis had his surgeries last night and is doing well. He had his PEG tube and trach placed first, then had reconstructive surgery to mend the broken bones in his face. The surgery was almost 9 hours long, but he has pulled through this well. He was quiet throughout the day, and we felt this was him 'sleeping' as we would all do if we went through a long surgery and anesthesia. Hopefully, we will see him more active again in the next few days.
It was reported to me yesterday that Curtis followed a command for one of the doctors! During his CT scan (his eyes were open for the scan, I was told!) the doctor asked Curtis if he could move his fingers. Curtis responded by moving his thumb :) I am glad that finally the medical team is able to witness some of the things we have been trying to tell them for the past week!
We are still hopeful for the best recovery for Curtis. Now that this surgery is behind him, his body can continue the healing process.
